In the run-up to that event, known formally as Congress of the Parties 28 (COP28), organizations concerned about global warming have turned up the volume and frequency of their concerns, particularly after the sweltering summer of 2023. The current moment is an inflection point, goes the argument, and we need more concerted and dramatic actions now to ward off a soon-to-be-unlivable planet.
