Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--As Arevon (Scottsdale, Arizona) starts operations at its third completed battery energy storage system (BESS) in California, the company isn't slowing down with its project activity. Industrial Info is tracking nearly $3.2 billion worth of active Arevon solar and energy-storage projects, nearly all of which are located in California.

Arevon's most recently completed BESS is the Condor project in San Bernadino County, California. The company completed construction earlier this summer and on Monday announced the plant had commenced operations. The Condor plant is capable of providing 200 megawatts (MW) of power for a four-hour period during times of peak demand. Engineering, procurement and construction contractor Rosendin Electric (San Jose, California) started construction in 2022, installing Tesla Incorporated's (NASDAQ:TSLA) (Austin, Texas) Megapack 2 XL batteries at the facility. Southern California Edison (Rosemead, California) will purchase the facility's output under a 15-year power purchase agreement (PPA). Subscribers to Industrial Info's Global Market Intelligence (GMI) Power Project Database can learn more by viewing the project report.

Arevon is at work on several other BESS projects in California, some with accompanying solar power. Among the company's solar-plus-storage facilities and representing one of Arevon's largest undertakings are its plans for the Eland site in Kern County, about 110 miles north of Los Angeles. The company is in the startup phase of Eland 1, which includes 200 MW of solar generation and 100 MW of battery storage. In February this year, Arevon secured $1.1 billion in financing for Eland 2, a solar-plus-storage facility near Eland 1 that will provide 374 MW of solar generation and 150 MW of stored battery output for up to four hours. The project has a long-term PPA in place with Southern California Public Power Authority (Glendora, California). The solar and BESS projects are expected to come online next year. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the related project reports.

Arevon also has PPAs in place for the output for a couple of similar projects in California with San Diego Community Power (SDCP) (San Diego, California). The two companies signed an initial PPA for output from the Vikings solar-plus-storage facility, construction of which started last year and is nearing completion. The solar portion has a 150-MW generating capacity, along with the 150-MW BESS unit, which will be able to provide full power for four hours. Subscribers can learn more by viewing the reports on the solar and BESS portions of project.

In March, Arevon and SDCP signed a 15-year PPA for all of the output from the upcoming Avocet energy storage project in Carson, California. The Avocet project doesn't include a solar component and represents SDCP's largest contracted standalone BESS facility to date. The Avocet facility will be constructed near Torrance and, like the Condor project, will feature Tesla technology, providing up to 200 MW of generation for up to four hours in times of peak demand. Completion of the facility is expected in the coming months. Subscribers can click here to learn more.
