EIA Sees Solar as Leading Grid Generation Growth This Summer

January 30, 2025--Written by Paul Wiseman for Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)--Whether the U.S. grid can support rising power demand from data centers, electric vehicles (EVs) and other sources remains to be seen. For 2025, the U.S. Energy Information Administration's Short Term Energy Outlook (STEO) sees supply as relatively flat. Most new generation capacity will involve renewables, especially solar. Overall electricity generation growth will likely be only 2% in 2025 and 1% in 2026, according to the STEO, which was released on January 24.
