October 30, 2023--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Sugar Land, Texas)-- Southern Company's (NYSE:SO) (Atlanta, Georgia) largest electric subsidiary, Georgia Power (Atlanta), has made significant updates to its 2023 integrated resource plan (IRP), calling for more solar power and battery energy storage, construction of new gas-fired units and plans for a power purchase agreement (PPA) with an outside gas-fired plant. Based on the company's energy expansion plan in the updated IRP, Georgia Power now anticipates adding approximately 10,000 megawatts (MW) of renewable energy by 2035, a significant update on the 6,000 MW anticipated in the 2022 IRP.
