Researched by Industrial Info Resources Australia (Perth, Australia)--With $69.28 billion in projects being tracked by Industrial Info, the Northern Territory ranks third among Australia's states in potential project investments.
Planned investments in the Northern Territory fall short of similar investments in Queensland and Western Australia by $150 billion each, but the state has a reasonable amount of heavy industrial spending when its low population is taken into account, and looks certain to become an important participant in Australia's rising Oil and Gas Industry.
Planned investments in the Northern Territory include more than 106 projects.
Within this total, there are 24 oil and gas projects, which make up 83%, or $57.58 billion, of the state's total investment value. With the addition of six oil and gas pipelines, which are valued at $3.24 billion, the amount increases to $60.82 billion, or nearly 88%.
Oil and gas projects make up nine of the most expensive projects in the Northern Territory. With a price tag of $34 billion, INPEX Corporation's (TYO:1605) (Tokyo, Japan) Ichthys liquefied natural gas (LNG) production plant comes in first.
The Mining Industry can claim the 10th most expensive project, with Metals X Limited's (ASX:MLX) (Perth, Australia) grassroot Wingellina Phase I Project, estimated at $2.05 billion.

With 55 projects worth $8.22 billion, the Northern Territory's mining operations are the second-biggest source of investments. A number of planned grassroot projects make up this total, including the $1.31 billion Nolan's Bore Rare Earths Project, the $311.8 million Wonarah Phosphate Project and TNG Limited's (ASX:TNG) (Perth, Australia) Mount Peake Vanadium Project.

It is expected that projects that are worth a total of $7.12 billion will be completed by this time next year. Projects in the engineering phase total an additional $145 million.
More than 68 projects with a total investment value $61.95 billion are in the early planning phase.
