Stanwell Slashes Tarong Power Station Generation Capacity in Half

PERTH, AUSTRALIA--October 22, 2012--Researched by Industrial Info Resources (Perth, Australia)--Stanwell Corporation (Brisbane, Australia) recently announced plans to mothball two units at the Tarong Power Station, starting this month. This is mainly due to the reduction in electricity demand, as well as rising costs, which are increasingly affecting coal-fired power plants in Australia. Officials at Stanwell have stated that Unit 2, a 350-megawatt (MW), coal-fired unit, will be mothballed at the end of October 2012. Unit 4, also a 350-MW, coal-fired unit, is scheduled to be mothballed at the end of December 2012.
