U.S. Oil Drillers Add Rigs - U.S. energy firms last week added oil and natural gas rigs for a second week in a row, boosting the monthly count by the most since November 2022, energy services firm Baker Hughes Company (NASDAQ:BKR) (Houston, Texas) said. The oil and gas rig count rose by three to 589 in the week ending July 26. Baker Hughes said oil rigs rose five to 482 last week, while gas rigs fell by two to 101. (Reuters)

Pemex Swings to Large Quarterly Loss - Mexico's state-owned oil company Pemex (Mexico City) swung to a 256 billion-peso (US$14 billion) second-quarter net loss on Friday, which the energy giant chalked up to lower sales, a higher cost of sales and large currency exchange losses. The quarterly loss compared to a net profit of more than US$25.4 billion in the same period of last year. Falling sales were driven by a lower volume of crude oil exports, the filing showed, with sales from the shipments down 16% from the year-ago period. (Reuters)

China's First-Half 2024 Thermal Coal Imports Up - China's imports of thermal coal from the seaborne market, used mainly to generate electricity, were 168.73 million metric tons in the first six months of this year, up 8.5% from 155.51 million in the same period in 2023, according to data compiled by commodity analysts Kpler.
